Topic: “Your Will and Love “
Text: John 15:13
Memory Verse: “Greater love has no one than this: that someone lay down his life for his friends
The Agape love – this God kind of love – involves the choice of your will. That love is inside your spirit if you are born again. However, you are the one who has to put it into practice. You choose to let that love loose from within you. We can choose to love all people.
We choose to love all people, even the unlovable. We love as God loves. It involves the giving of our lives for the benefit of mankind. This does not merely refer to dying physically. It mainly refers to our being willing to give up our own will and way to take time to pray and intercede for all men. This verse, part of Jesus’ teaching on love and discipleship, emphasizes that sacrificing oneself for others, especially one’s friends, is the greatest expression of love.
There is sacrifice in giving up your own will and time to pray for others.
COMPASSION: Love is the basis for all Christian activity. Compassion is an ingredient of divine love; because God so loved the world that He gave Jesus; and Jesus so loved us that He gave Himself for us. While on earth, in His ministry, we see again and again, compassion. Jesus is the will of God in action. Jesus is the love of God in action. We saw compassion in His earthly ministry
Jesus was moved with Compassion in His earthly ministry – Mathew 9:36-38. He asked His disciples to pray that the Lord will send laborers. In Mathew 14:14, Mathew 20:34 – He healed the sick, the blind, the lame. In Mathew 15:32, His compassion led to the feeding of four thousand.
Jesus’ compassion brought deliverance. If we have the divine compassion of Jesus, there will be deliverance
Jesus still heals today through His vessels. The blind receive their sight, people with terminal cancers have been miraculously healed today. Cases of insanity have been completely healed, broken bones have been miraculously joined together and much more
You cannot fellowship with God, the God of the universe, without His love permeating your being and without His compassion flowing through you.
PRAYER & MEDITATION: John 14:12. the works that He did were born out of love and compassion. The works that the believing ones shall do, including prayer are products of sharing in his ministry of love and compassion.
