Topic: “AVOID BEING OFFENDED WITH CHRIST PART 1 – AVOID BEING SELF CENTERED“
Text: Mark 6: 2-3, 5
Memory Verse: Then Jesus said to His disciples, If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. It is laying down our lives to follow Christ. Matt 16:24
You know it is impossible to maintain your love walk when you get offended with other people. Have you considered the fact that you can also wreck your love life by getting offended at God? The moment you begin to blame Him for the things that go wrong in your life, saying things like “I just do not know why God let this happen to me…” you have stepped out of love into strife – if you do not have intimacy with God, how can you have intimacy with His children? The state of offense can lead to backsliding.
When you think about it, getting offended with God is one of the dumbest things we can do.
The Bible tells us clearly that He (God) is perfect in all His ways (Deut. 32:4) God never misses it, He is always good. So, if things are not working, we need to look at ourselves and find out where the problem came from. We will find out where we have yielded to the pressures of life and probably left things undone or through doubt in the power of God in that situation.
That is what the people of Nazareth did when Jesus was there. Instead of loving Him and appreciating the power of God working in Him, they become offended with Him. He did not fit their idea of who the Messiah ought to be; He did not do and say everything exactly like they thought He should. So, they became offended and refused to trust him. No doubt, they grieved the Lord, but you know who paid the highest price in that situation? The people of Nazareth, who should have enjoyed more of all of His power as His closest kinsmen. They missed out on their healings, miracles and deliverances.
PRAYER: Refuse the temptation of getting offended with God instead, keep confessing His goodness, believing His Word and He will do mighty works in your life.
