Topic: “Showcasing the power of God through Salvation”
Text: 1 Cor 1:18- 22
Memory Verse: Rom 5:19 – “For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one man’s obedience many will be made righteous”.
Christianity cannot be symbolized by just the wearing of symbols such as a cross as jewelry or a lapel pin. Our faith is founded on the selfless sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross. The truth about the cross is that there is power in it. The bible says it is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are believers, it is the power of God.
The power of God is what convicts of sin and disobedience. It does not make sense to the rational mind that someone will bear the sin of others. Yet that is what happened, by thinking it through, we cannot comprehend it, but the love of God helps to make meaning of it. Before Jesus, it was the sacrifice of animals and their blood that were used for atonement. However, that became a reoccurring action at every time man sinned and offering was required. God decided to offer his own son as a once for all sacrifice for our sins.
The scripture mentions in Ephesians 2:8, that we are saved by grace, we cannot save ourselves, it is the faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. In the cross there is healing, he was bruised for my iniquity, I find grace, peace and joy which he gave in place of the death, shame and scorn he suffered.
Jesus took our place in death and gave us his life. What other power can compare to that? Through resurrection, Jesus conquered the evil supernatural power that opposed God. God has done everything, all he asks is for me to believe in what he has done and admit my helplessness, by confessing my sins to him then I acknowledge him as Lord and Saviour.
PRAYER: I am grateful Lord for the price you paid for me, I am grateful that all I need do is to believe in you. By your grace I have been forgiven, my sins have been washed away. I appropriate the power available through your salvation in Jesus name, Amen.
