SEPTEMBER 12: The Benefits of the Fullness of God: You Became a Follower

Identity is very important today. There are many names by which those who have accepted the Lord Jesus Christ are called. Sometimes they are called believers, at some point, they are called disciples and sometimes, they are called Christians. In our text today, Paul gave us an insight into the third benefit of the fullness of Christ, and that is we have become “followers.” He said, “So that you can see exactly what it is he is calling you to do, grasp the immensity of this glorious way of life he has for his followers…” To be a follower is to be in union with God, or be a companion of God. The blessing thereof is that “…to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.” By this we come into a closer relationship with God, we are no longer outsiders; we have become members of His family.
As you step out today, remember that followers of Christ will follow the leading of their leader. Followers will follow Him, day by day, step by step, trusting Him to lead them. We follow people and things because we have faith and a conviction about them. To follow Christ, we express this faith with a confession that He is the Christ, the Son of the living God (Matthew 16:16).
Prayer: Heavenly Father, as we seek to access the fullness you have given to us, help us to daily follow you faithfully, fervently and with the full strength you have given to us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
