SEPTEMBER 24:HIS SANCTIFICATION

September 24, 2023

Topic: HIS SANCTIFICATION

Text: Lev 20:7-8

Memory Verse: “And ye shall keep my statutes, and do them: I am the Lord which sanctify you” Lev 20:8

To be sanctified is to be set apart wholly for a special use or purpose of God. It is also the manifest grace of God upon the believer to love Him wholeheartedly, and others too. There is a close nexus between sanctification and holiness as can be seen from our passage above. The implication of this is that a Person that is set aside for God’s noble use must first be purified and made fit for God’s service, for without holiness, no man shall see God (2 Tim 2:20-21; Heb 12:14).

The call of God upon every saved life is to be sanctified. It is evident from our text that there is a dual dimension to the subject of sanctification, and they are mutually reinforcing, namely: the role an individual must play in living a consecrated life; and the gracious act of God in sanctifying him. At the foundational level, as believers, we are already sanctified on the basis of Christ’s redemptive work (Heb 10:10); but on a continuing basis, we must allow the Lord to keep pruning us until we attain the kind of life He wants to make out of us by the exercise of self-restraint (1 These 4:3).

When Jesus prayed to the Father towards the end of His earthly ministry, He said: “Sanctify them through thy truth, thy word is truth.” John 17:17. He undoubtedly knew that the work of sanctification was beyond the ability of the disciples whom the Father had given unto Him. He underscored the need for a supernatural intervention to bring into effect, the Spirit behind the undiluted Word of Truth that is capable of transforming lives by way of Doctrine, Reproof, Correction and Instruction in righteousness (Exodus 31:13b; 2 Tim 3:16)

Prayer: I thank you, oh Lord, for the work of redemption over my life. As I offer it back to you fully, please help me to walk in the consciousness of your grace every day and use me for the very purpose you saved me.
