TOPIC: “WHEN DESIRE BECOMES DANGEROUS”
TEXT: Proverbs 21:25–26
MEMORY VERSE: “The craving of a sluggard will be the death of him, because his hands refuse to work” – Proverbs 21:25 (NIV).
Desire in itself is not a bad thing. It is natural to want more, to hope for better, and to dream about growth. However, desire becomes dangerous when it is disconnected from discipline and purpose.
The Bible speaks of a person who craves constantly but refuses to work. This kind of craving is not productive, it is destructive. It remains at the level of wishing, wanting and imagining without any effort to move forward.
Over time, that kind of desire can lead to frustration; and frustration, if not checked, can push a person into wrong decisions, cutting corners, compromising values, or chasing things in ways that are not right.
That is how something harmless can slowly become harmful.
In contrast, Scripture describes the righteous as one who gives freely. This is a powerful picture. It shows that a righteous person is not consumed by getting, but is positioned to give. Greed holds tightly. Righteousness releases.
A life driven only by craving will always feel empty, because it is focused on receiving. Yet, a life grounded in God produces both diligence and generosity.
So, the question is not just, “What do I want?” It is, “Am I growing, working and becoming in the right way?”
God’s desire is not just to fulfill your needs, but to shape your heart so that you can live a life of purpose, discipline and impact.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to align my desires with Your will. Teach me to be diligent in my work and generous in my living. Guard my heart from empty cravings and lead me into purposeful living, Amen.
