SEPTEMBER 26: “KNOWING WHEN ENOUGH IS ENOUGH”

TOPIC:  “KNOWING WHEN ENOUGH IS ENOUGH”

TEXT: Proverbs 15:27

MEMORY VERSE:  “The greedy bring ruin to their households, but the one who hates bribes will live” – Proverbs 15:27 (NIV).

Greed is not always loud. Sometimes, it hides behind ambition, opportunity, or the desire to “do better.” When it is left unchecked, it can lead to decisions that destroy not just an individual, but an entire family.

I once read in The Psychology of Money about the importance of knowing when “enough” is enough. There are people who build wealth steadily, make wise investments and reach a level where they are secure but instead of being content, they push further, not out of need, but out of the desire for more.

There are real-life examples of this.

A person may invest wisely over time and grow their resources, but then, driven by overconfidence or greed, they take a reckless step, putting everything they have into one opportunity. Sometimes they even borrow or sell assets to increase their stake. When that decision fails, everything is lost.

We have seen similar situations, especially during schemes like MMM, where many people invested beyond wisdom. Some borrowed money, some emptied their savings, all in pursuit of quick gain. When it collapsed, the result was devastating.

This is exactly what Scripture warns about. Greed does not just affect the individual; it spills over into the household. Families suffer, stability is lost, basic needs become a struggle.

God is not against growth or wise investment. However, He calls us to wisdom, contentment and discernment. We must know when to move, when to pause, and when to say, “this is enough.”

Every decision, especially financial ones, should be guided by wisdom by seeking God’s direction because in the end, it is better to have enough with peace than abundance with ruin.

PRAYER: Lord, teach me contentment. Help me to make wise decisions and to recognize when enough is enough. Guard my heart from greed and lead me in paths that bring life, not ruin, Amen.
