Topic: HIS PEACE
Text: Isaiah 26:1-3
Memory Verse: “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee, because he trusteth in thee” Isa 26:3
Ever wondered how everything about creation and human existence still holds together in spite of all the mutilations that occur daily, whether caused by man or forces of nature? The reality is that the entirety of creation is held by the power of His hands, and by his commands, it remains.
God is inherently at peace with Himself, and nothing of His creation can frustrate His peace. Therefore, every time the Scriptures talk about His Peace, it is usually in reference to the nature and character of God, and the manner of His relationship with creation, both animate and inanimate. The Psalmist declared: Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth” Psalm 46:10.
Once Jesus was inside the boat with His disciples coasting to the other side, but the tempestuous waves of the Sea will not let them sail cosily; but while the disciples became totally overwhelmed and fretful regarding the state of affairs, inside the same boat, the Master of the Waves laid fast asleep, not necessarily oblivious of what was going on, but certainly unperturbed by the currency of the moment. The disciples ran out of shine and steam, but when the Lord showed up, He simply demonstrated His nature of Peace: “And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace be still. And the wind ceased, and there was great calm (Mark 4:39).
Our world has great need for peace, for all and sundry. Unfortunately, the world attempts to obtain this Peace outside of the Prince of Peace. Jesus himself declared in John 14:27: “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you, not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
In a similar vein, Paul drew the attention of the Philippian Church to the need to always commit everything into God’s hands and rest on the assurance of God’s peace which is beyond human understanding being availed to them through Christ Jesus (Phil 4:6-7)
Prayer: Thank you for bringing us peace in the midst of every form of disorder and chaos. Sometimes the storms and the noise around overwhelm me, but it is comforting enough to know you are in there for me. Amen.
