Topic: “Showcasing the power of God through his Holiness”
Text: Isaiah 6:3-4, Revelation 4:4-8
Memory Verse: Psalm 99:5 – “Exalt the Lord our God. And worship at his footstool- He is holy”.
The best and strongest definition of Holy is to be set apart. In the two bible texts shared above, the word HOLY was written in capital letters and repeated three times, this is not only for emphasis, but to create AWE about the word.
God’s holiness means there is nothing to compare him to. Nothing comes close to him nor is there anything similar to him. The reality of who God is can be explained in no other way than to consider his holiness. Yes, and that is the God who we serve – no power, no authority can challenge him, not even in death. What can we do with this knowledge other than to please him because he is worthy.
God is holy in his reign as the King of Kings, Psalm 47:8. God reigns over the nations; God sits on his holy throne. This means that his kingdom is marked with righteousness and justice, unlike earthly kingdoms.
God alone is holy; no one can comprehend or compare with his holiness 1Samuel 2:2; No one is holy like the Lord. For there is none beside you, nor is there any rock like our God. It is an insult for a human being to equate himself with God or to say he is Holy. Hannah in the Old Testament must have realized that God’s power to conceive was just his prerogative and nothing she did made her worthy of it. God’s holiness shows forth in his mercy towards us. We don’t deserve anything good, yet he keeps overlooking our errors and showing us grace.
Like Isaiah, we should reverence the holiness of God whenever we come into his presence. I welcome you to join the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders to cast your crowns at his feet. Let go of your titles and identity and embrace the incomparable holiness of our God
PRAYER: Lord, I stand before your presence today in worship and AWE of you. I lift you high above all other names and I declare HOLY! HOLY! HOLY! Lord God Almighty.
