Topic: “THE PROPHECY OF THE MESSIAH “
Text: Isaiah 7:14, 9:6-7
Memory Verse: “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder. And His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” – Isaiah 9:6.
Prophet Isaiah prophesied of the virgin birth of the Messiah, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Foretelling of the Lord’s arrival through this way is the bedrock and one of the cornerstones of our faith as Christians. Jesus, the Messiah and Saviour of mankind.
In Isaiah 7:14, the Prophet foretells; “Therefore, the Lord Himself will give you a sign; the virgin will conceive and give birth to a son and will call Him Immanuel”. This prophecy signifies the miraculous nature of Jesus’ birth with importance on His divine nature and origin.
The Messiah’s identity is further elaborated in Isaiah 9:6-7 describing Him as Wonderful, Counsellor – embodying wisdom and guidance (counsel).
- Mighty God – affirming the divine nature of the Messiah.
- Everlasting Father – symbolizing eternal fatherhood.
- Prince of Peace – bringing peace and harmony to mankind.
His (the Messiah’s) reign is characterized by justice, righteousness and peace with the eternal reign of His government. Isaiah 9:7. The significance of all of these, in the light of God’s word emphasizes God’s plan for mankind’s redemption. The Lord Jesus Christ becoming the fulfilment of these prophecies, brings salvation and hope to all people, demonstrating God’s love and mercy.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of your only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, our Messiah and Saviour. Guide us to live according to your will in Jesus’ name, Amen.
