Topic: PROMISE FULFILLED
Text: Isaiah 7:14; 9:6-7; Matthew 1:23-25
Memory Verse: “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Emmanuel – which means, God with us” – Matt 1:23.
One of the major offenses people commit against their friends is unfaithfulness to their promises. This has separated friends, loved ones, and watered down their relationship.
When promises are not kept, people get disappointed and unable to trust those who made such promises.
Somehow, we all tend to fail when we make promises. This may not be because we do not want to keep them, but because we do not always have complete control over our circumstances and situations. We find certain variables we expected to help us keep our promises not falling in place.
God on the other hand is the great potentate over the universe, the maker and sustainer of all things. He alone holds everything in the hollow of His hands and determines the times and seasons of our world. It is this type of solid position that makes it impossible for Him to fail when he makes a promise since He has all the resources necessary for fulfilling His word.
He promised to come to be with mankind when He spoke through Isaiah the prophet in our text for today, and in Matthew 1:18 25. His word came to pass, a child was born to the virgin Mary who was named Emmanuel, translated “God with us”. He came as the physical manifestation and exact image of God, the radiance of His presence.
In Jesus, God kept His promise made many years before His birth. This is our encouragement that God’s word to you will surely come to pass no matter how long it appears to take. That the promise of God’s presence fulfilled in Jesus guarantees God’s presence with you through all your life and through all situations. Just remembering or mentioning the name of Jesus should remind you that God is with you and make you relax.
Prayer: Lord, I know you are ever with me and so I am at peace. The name of Jesus is a great reminder of this truth to me. Please let that name never depart from my lips and my heart – Amen.
