Topic: GOD’S PROMISE OFCOMPANIONSHIP III
Text: John 14:15-18
Memory Verse: “I will not abandon you as orphans, I will come
to you – John 14:18.
Before Jesus ascended to heaven, He took time to reassure His disciples about the provision He had made to take care of them. He was not going to leave them as orphans but was coming to be with, and in them through the Holy Spirit. This promise was re-echoed in different other scriptures (Luke 24:49; Acts 1:8, John 15:26; 16:3).
Through the person and ministry of the Holy Spirit, the Lord had decided to still be with them as an ever-abiding companion whose presence they were to continue to enjoy, giving them strength to face the challenges that awaited them, especially as they were to continue the ministry of evangelizing the whole world.
Apart from being with the disciples, Jesus said that the Holy Spirit would be their helper. This is something we all need. As you move into your tasks this year, know that help has been promised by the Lord; so, do not try to fix anything or get anything done in your strength because it will not accomplish much. You need to appropriate the divine help that the Holy Spirit has been sent to provide for you.
The good thing to keep in mind here is the promise of God to have the Holy Spirit live in you forever. His ministry in your life by God’s arrangement is endless. It means you are never without divine help all the days of your life. So whatever task you handle, or whatever responsibility you must handle, you already have a divine provision to ensure you get it done excellently. Whatever limitations or inabilities, God has your back covered. You only need to stick to Him, obey His word and stay close to Him.
Prayer: Lord, cause me to truly enjoy the endless companionship of your Holy Spirit throughout this year and absolutely rely on your help for every assignment I will handle – Amen
