Topic: SEEING LOVED ONES AGAIN
Text: 1 THESSALONIANS 4:13-18
Memory Verse: “Then we who are alive, who are left, shall be caught up together in the air; and so we shall always be with the Lord” – 1 Thessalonians 4:17
In the early church, persecution and trials were the cause of death for the early Christians. The questions that agitated their minds were: what would be the lot of those who have died? Would death rob them of participating in Christ’s second coming? Timothy brought these questions to Paul’s attention. Paul’s response was that all redeemed people who died in the Lord would share fully in the glories of that day because Christ’s death and resurrection have guaranteed their victory over death.
Even today, when people take a glance at the final resting place of a loved one, hearts are broken because many have the feeling of not being likely to see them again. For children of God, there is hope that we will see and interact with all those relations who slept in the Lord. At the second coming of Jesus Christ, the redeemed who have slept in the Lord will be raised and the living will be translated. Together, they will be caught up in the air to meet Jesus. Parents, children, brothers, sisters, friends and loved ones who have been separated by the cruel hands of death, will go together into the kingdom of God. Being together, we can be sure that we shall recognize one another.
However, the promise of the glorious reunion is only for those that are redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ. As for those who have rejected Jesus, their place will be in hell. Therefore, for those of us still alive, let us share the good news of Jesus with our loved ones, so that the chances of meeting again at the feet of Christ will be sure. All those who are living without Christ and are longing for a happy reunion with their loved ones who have slept in the Lord; should consider their ways while time is still on their side and God’s mercy still lingers.
PRAYER: My dear heavenly Father, I thank you for the hope I have to be reunited with my loved ones who have slept in the Lord. What a glorious reunion that will be. Grant us the grace to know you while your mercy is still available in Jesus’ name amen.
