Topic: “BENEFITS OF CHRIST’S RESURRECTION POWER – VICTORY OVER SIN AND DEATH”
Text: 1 Corinthians 15:55-57
Memory Verse: “But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ” – 1 Cor 15:57 (NLT).
One of the greatest fears of man is the fear of death. Even though death occurs commonly in our midst, yet it seems to have remained that “stranger” we would rather not welcome or accept. It is however instructive to note that death itself will die, and will be swallowed up one day, victoriously.
The Bible clearly states that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, (Rom 3:23) and that while the penalty for sin is death (i.e. eternal separation from God), God’s gift of Eternal Life is available in Christ (Rom 6:23).
One of the benefits of Jesus Christ’s resurrection is that it demonstrates His divine power over sin and death and guarantees the believer’s victory over them too.
If Jesus had not resurrected, it would have implied that He was defeated by death, and in that instance, man would have remained under the yoke of sin, without redemption. However, Christ triumphed over death and purchased with His blood, the righteousness that was necessary for our redemption.
The death of Jesus Christ on the Cross of Calvary and His resurrection marked the end of our defeat. Through this, we were supernaturally transformed from defeat to victory.
“He was handed over to die because of our sins, and he was raised to life to make us right with God.”. (Romans 4:25 -NLT)
On the basis of the finished work of Christ on the cross, and His resurrection, all who believe in Him are therefore graciously conferred with the same victory through faith (Eph 2:8-9). It is the power of Christ’s resurrection that enables us to live such a victorious life (Gal 2:20; 5:16-24).
PRAYER: Father, I thank you for the victory you have given me over sin and death. May I continue to walk in the power of your resurrection every day, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
