Topic:  “ The power of Christ’s death in our Redemption”

Text: Hebrew 9:11-28

Memory Verse: Ephesians 1:7 – “In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sin according to the riches of His grace”.

The concept of redemption is an interesting one. To redeem simply means to ransom. To pay the price for someone to be set free. It means paying the price for somebody who was in bondage to be set free. What happened to the people of Israel in the book of Exodus was an act of redemption. Something had to be given for someone to be set free. The price paying concept is brought to the fore by God redeeming Israel at the expense of Egypt. It was either that Israel perishes in the hands of the Egyptians or that Egypt perishes in order that Israel can go free. The Lord chose the latter alternative. He made Egypt to pay the ultimate price for Israel’s redemption by destroying Egypt to redeem a people for Himself.

Before the advent of Jesus Christ into the world and His eventual death and resurrection, sin came into the world and had dominion over the human race. The human race became slaves to sin and needed to be set free from the power of sin.

Jesus Christ came and paid the ultimate price through his death. Our memory verse of today says that in Him we have redemption through His blood. Colossians 1:13-14 says that “God hath delivered us from the power of darkness and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear son: In whom we have redemption through His blood, even the forgiveness of sin.

All believers are God’s property. He has redeemed and purchased us with the blood of Jesus Christ. He has complete title to us; we are not our own any longer. We belong to Him. We must act and behave according to the will of Him who has redeemed us and paid the ultimate price.

Beloved, how are you living your life today? You claim to be redeemed and born again but you are still living as if you own yourself? My advice for you this morning is to start living a life that glorifies Him that has called you and purchased you with His blood.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, I pray this morning that you will help me to start living a redemptive life that will glorify you and bring honour to your name, Amen.
