Topic: “Worship as Surrender”
Text: Romans 12:1-8
Memory Verse: “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” – Romans 12:1
When sacrificing an animal according to God’s law, a priest will kill the animal, cut it in pieces, and place it on the altar. Sacrifice was important, but even in the Old Testament God made it clear that obedience from the heart was much more important (1 Samuel 15:22; Psalm 40:6; Amos 5:21-24). God wants us to offer ourselves, not animals, as living sacrifices – daily laying aside our own desires to follow Him, putting all our energy and resources at His disposal and trusting Him to guide us.
Worship is not just an activity we do on Sundays or in moments of prayer; it is a lifestyle of surrender. In Romans 12:1, we are called to offer ourselves as living sacrifices, giving all that we are – our time, our desires, our will – back to God. This is what true worship looks like: it is a continuous offering of ourselves to God in gratitude for His mercy and grace.
Surrendering to God in worship means, letting go of control. It means trusting Him with the areas of our lives that we might hold tightly to – our plans, our relationships, and our future. When we surrender, we allow God to lead us fully without holding back. Worship becomes an act of trust and devotion, as we place ourselves completely in His hands.
What areas of your life are you struggling to surrender? Perhaps it is your career, a relationship, or a deep personal desire. Today, invite God to help you surrender those areas in worship, trusting that His plans are better than yours.
Take a moment to reflect on the areas of your life that you have yet to fully surrender to God. Offer them to Him as an act of worship, trusting that He is in control.
PRAYER: Lord, I surrender all to You today. Help me to offer my life as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to You. Teach me to worship through surrender, trusting that You know what is best for me. Amen.
