TOPIC: “FIXING OUR EYES ON ETERNITY”
TEXT: 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
MEMORY VERSE: “While we look, not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal” – 2 Cor. 4:18.
In our text for today, we are encouraged to brace up and daringly face the challenges and difficulties that can weigh us down and the key to staying focused is fixing our eyes on eternity. Apostle Paul in today’s devotional passage reminds us to fix our eyes on eternity with God, not on the temporal things of this world, because the things of this world have no eternal values.
When believers focus on the things that are seen, they become distracted by the temporal and lose sight of the eternal. Fixing one’s eyes on eternity means prioritizing eternal perspectives and values over temporal earthly concerns. It involves focusing on God’s promises, presence, and purposes that transcend this life, rather than getting bogged down by daily struggles or fleeting successes. By so doing, believers can gain a heavenly perspective, thus, living with purpose and meaning that goes beyond the present moment.
Fixing our eyes on eternity as believers helps us to realize that our lives are not defined by our current circumstances, but by our eternal hope in Christ. Fixing our eyes on eternity requires intentional focus. Beloved, as you walk with God, ask Him to help you to keep your eyes fixed on what truly matters. Remember that the struggles of this life, your struggle in particular are temporal, but your reward is eternal. Therefore, let eternity guide your decisions, relationships, and priorities. You are not just living for today; you are living for eternity.
PRAYER: Father Lord, please help me to keep my eyes on eternity, on things that have eternal values in Jesus’ name, Amen!
