Topic: “GOD’S LOVE DESPITE SIN”
Text: GENESIS 3:1-21
Memory Verse: Genesis 3:21 – “The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.”
God showered man with so much love, but despite God’s love for man, man got lost but God’s love towards man was never lost. After Adam and Eve’s disobedience, God’s love shone through. Instead of abandoning them, He provided garments to cover their shame, showing His continued care. This act of mercy foreshadows the ultimate covering of our sins through Jesus Christ. God’s love remains steadfast, even in our failures.
Someone can be thinking, “does Genesis 3 truly show God’s love and why was a curse released in the chapter?” One must realize that even though God is a Lover, He is also a Righteous Judge, He will never pervert righteousness because of love and He will not forget His love while judging iniquity. In Genesis 3, God judged Sin and immediately provided a way out for the sinners. Right in the midst of the judgement, God provided both ultimate (Genesis 3:15) and immediate (Genesis 3:21) solutions to the problem of Sin. Love does not condone sin but love covers sin and caters for sinners (Proverbs 10:12; 17:9; 1Corinthians 13:4, 7; 1 Peter 4:8).
What we see in Genesis 3 is that God so loved the world in its failed state that He gave His only begotten Son whose blood was to be shed for the remission of our sins (John 3:16; Matthew 26:28; Hebrews 9:22). How have you experienced God’s love and mercy in times of failure? In what ways can you extend grace and love to others who have wronged you?
PRAYER: Merciful God, thank You for Your unfailing love and mercy, even when I fall short. Help me to accept Your forgiveness and extend the same grace to others. May I always remember that Your love covers all our sins in Jesus’ name, Amen.
