The statistics from UNICEF state that the latest figures show a maternal mortality rate in Nigeria of 576 per 100,000 live births, the fourth highest on Earth. Each year, approximately 262,000 babies die at birth, the world’s second highest national total. Infant mortality currently stands at 69 per 1,000 live births, while for under-fives; it rises to 128 per 1,000 live births. More than half of the under-five deaths – 64 per cent – result from malaria, pneumonia or diarrhoea.
It is a sad reality that 128 out of every 1000 births in Nigeria do not survive; it is therefore a privilege and God’s great miracle that you and I made it through the struggles to be born. Right from our mother’s wombs, we were created for a special purpose. We should be conscious of the fact that our God who created us has a purpose for our lives.
Your life is about being empowered to become the person God envisioned when he created you. What are you called and gifted for, or to do? That is where you will find your highest level of joy and fulfilment.
Our bible text for today says that God knew us before we were formed in our mothers’ wombs. The same way God created everything to bring glory and honor to him, we are not excluded. There is a reason for our lives and that calls for us to live intentionally. In the case of Jeremiah, he appointed him a prophet to the nations. What have you been appointed to fulfil? Your calling is in the simple, daily responsibilities that life brings.
Jesus is our ultimate example, Romans 14:9 says that Christ died and rose again for this very purpose – to be Lord both of the living and of the dead. He came to reconcile us back to God by dying for us, thereby paying the price for our sins. He was clear on his purpose, and he did all towards fulfilling it.
PRAYER: Heavenly father, thank you for the purpose you had in mind for creating me, I am not a product of mistake but of your intentionality. I ask for the grace to daily seek you and work in line with your will for me that just like Jesus, I will abide by your plans for my life, Amen.
